Studio 54

This season, shows went back to the Seventies with a glamorous nod to the decadent Studio 54 era. At Matthew Williamson, make-up artist Lisa Eldridge created “a glamorous, dramatic and sexy Anjelica Huston-inspired make-up” with deep plum lips, flushed cheeks and bronzed-up eyes. If you’re not quite ready to brave the bold lip and smokey eye, this look is great as you can build it up depending on how dramatic you want to go!

Elias’s tip

“To make sure your lip colour stays put, first apply non-petroleum lip balm. Next, brush concealer on to lips and line them with a neutral liner. Smudge lipstick on the back of your hand and use a brush to apply to lips, then apply a thick layer directly on to lips. Place a layer of tissue over the lips and apply loose or pressed powder through the tissue and top with a final layer of lipstick for a glossy finish.”

Swinging sixties

Swinging sixties

“It’s all about top and bottom lashes and beautifully contoured eyes — it’s that Sixties eye, but made modern by the freshness of the skin,” says make-up maestro Pat McGrath about this season’s eye style. Wear with a bright pop of colour on your pout to keep it fresh and modern.

“For flawless false lash application, always hold them to your eye to ensure they’re not too long. If they are, trim off the excess. Be sure to allow the adhesive glue time to get tacky before applying the lashes and use tweezers to ensure precision. Place them as close to the lash line as possible and press gently, allowing them to set in place. Apply mascara to your lashes to make them blend in naturally. If the base of the strip is still noticeable, draw a thick line using a liquid eyeliner to hide it.”

Molten moss

Molten moss

Go green with the season’s hottest hue — moss. From metallic moss liner at Antonio Berardi or grungy greenness at Derek Lam, green-eyed gorgeousness was everywhere at the A/W14 shows. Glam it up Dior style with a touch of gold on the middle of your eyelid for an elegant evening look.

Elias’s tip

“This look is all about perfectly blended eyeshadow. To prevent your eyeshadow from creasing, use a good primer first. If you don’t have a primer, concealer is a great alternative, or you can use foundation to keep your eyeshadow in place. Next, use a cream shadow for a super-smooth colour. Let the cream shadow rest for a while and set with a dusting of loose powder on your eyelids. Finally, use a good eyeshadow brush to apply your eyeshadow.”

Elias’s tip

“If you have a warm skin tone, try an eyeshadow with a golden hue, such as green, brown, gold or pink. If you have a cool skin tone, blues, greys, silvers, pinks and plums will suit you. Those with darker skin tones can amp up the drama with darker, bolder colours. If you’re not sure about your skin tone, get a free professional makeover at Paris Gallery to discover which icy colours will work for you.”
