Capital cravings

Where Boa Steakhouse, Eastern Mangroves Promenade, Abu Dhabi

The low-down We were smitten the minute we arrived; modern, stylish interior with friendly, knowledgeable staff and a quality menu. Meats come with a choice of sauces and rubs, while the mains are complemented by a range of hearty sides including jumbo asparagus and the unforgettable crab and black truffle gnocchi. A classy, upmarket venue in
a stunning location with prices to match makes this a good choice for a special occasion. Go before June 15 and catch
the anniversary set menu.

Don’t miss The dry-aged New York strip and the black Angus tenderloin.

Family time

Where Butcha, The Beach at JBR

The low-down Butcha is an ideal combo of quality steakhouse and family restaurant, offering stylish decor and a serious-about-meat menu alongside crayons and games and a healthy kids’ menu, not to mention staff who are on the ball enough to notice when your four-year-old is making off with a steak knife. Little ones will love to watch chefs at work in the open kitchen and mums and dads are sure to adore the yummy food and lively atmosphere.

Don’t miss The Butcha steak – perfectly cooked dry-aged tenderloin served with a sinfully rich cheesy sauce.

Mexican madness

Where Maya, Le Royal Meridien Beach Resort and Spa

The low-down The ultra-cool Maya never fails to impress, with its modern interior and ambient atmosphere, and not a sombrero in sight. We popped down to check out its recent menu additions, including yummy mini-lobster tacos and smoked beef brisket nachos for starters. Next we had perfectly cooked steak and Tacos de barbacoa – delicious shredded lamb, avocado and pickles in soft spinach tortillas. We ate to bursting point, but somehow found space for lovely hot sugary churros (doughnut sticks) and went home happy.

Don’t miss The tacos: delicious!

New York, New York!

Where Soul, JBR

The low-down This restaurant and lounge oozes glam the moment you step in. Vibrant and spacious, it manages to maintain its Manhattan vibe throughout, and for some meaty, sophisticated goodness, you’d be hard-pressed to find a better spot. From the pan-seared crab cakes and shrimp cocktail to the wide range of full-of-flavour steaks and burgers, served by smiling, efficient staff, Soul gets it all right and makes it well worth navigating the JBR traffic.

Don’t miss The slow-roasted lamb rump with juniper berries jus.

For Pan Latin lovers

Where Toro Toro, Grosvenor House

The low-down One of the most stylish restaurants in town keeps getting better with a new menu. Start with osso buco coca flatbread and smoked guacamole, before moving on to the churrasco and grill selection, with a choice of American, Australian and Argentinian cuts cooked to perfection. If you’re dining with friends who favour fish, fear not. With everything from succulent scallops to Chilean sea bass, they won’t feel left out.

Don’t miss Try to leave space for dessert – we loved the Toro Toro tres leches cake.
