New around town

Weekend family fun

Grab your picnic blanket; the Westin Dubai Mina Seyahi’s popular Pik Nik is back. Dh395 gets you a basket full of goodies to feed two adults and two children (without beverages). There are a host of child-friendly activities including face painting and a kids’ club, and you can add beach access for Dh200 per adult and Dh125 for children aged four to 12. Saturdays, 11.30am-4pm, 04 259 8843.

Surround yourself

If your little ones prefer their movie experiences to include 3D, 4D and more, check out the new Dome Box movie theatre at trendy hangout Box Park. Showing a selection of short, family-friendly animated movies focused on science, nature and the environment, Dome Box features a state-of-the-art 360-degree screen, high-tech audio technology and super-comfy lie-back seats.

Party time

Cult kids entertainment venue Caboodle has joined the party scene. The staff will take care of everything from invites, balloons and decorations to cakes, catering, party games, entertainment and even goodie bags. Choose from a set theme, or have them tailor the party to suit your requirements and budget.

Mini movies

Yikes – somebody stole the sun! And it’s up to quirky, cheeky faun Mune to get it back. In a fantasy world divided by light and dark, it’s the guardians of the sun and moon who keep things on an even keel. But then the evil lord of the underworld turns things upside down when he steals the sun; can Mune and his friends – including Sohone, guardian of the sun, and little wax-girl Glim – get it back and restore things to how they’re meant to be? On screens around the UAE from November 26.

May the force be in your home

Pottery Barn

Intergalactic accessories

In honour of the upcoming movie, US interiors haven Pottery Barn has harnessed Jedi power with its new Star Wars children’s collection, available now at stores across the country. Keep it small with trinkets and gifts such as dining sets, puzzles, backpacks and watches, or take it up a notch with bedding and occasional pieces including a Death Star bean bag or an anywhere-chair, or go all out and plump for the ultimate hand-painted Millennium Falcon bed complete with cockpit, knobs and gauges. They’ll bethe envy of the galaxy.

Sail away

Sailing club

Little sailors can learn the ropes on the water at the new kids sailing club by Watercooled, 4pm-6pm every Saturday at Doubletree by Hilton on Jumeirah Beach. Sessions are carefully supervised by qualified instructors and are suitable for all abilities aged eight upwards. Dh200 per session.
