Cafe culture

Urban style

Billed as the ultimate urban café and bistro, Crumble is now open in the heart of Downtown Dubai, serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. Choose from fresh, healthy options including smashed avocado, Super Bowl salad, grilled baby chicken and coconut quinoa porridge, or treat yourself to something a little more sinful; we hear the pancakes and French toast are particularly good. Those with little ones will be pleased to know there’s a fenced-in play area upstairs, as well as plenty of toys. Relaxing meal, anyone? 04 448 9061

In the raw

Fans of Raw coffee will be pleased to hear the home-grown coffee roastery has just opened a standalone café in Emirates Academy of Hospitality, Umm Suqeim. Offering simple, delicious comfort food from a small but comprehensive menu – think homemade granola, breakfast wraps, hearty sandwiches, homemade soup and a variety of sweet treats – in an intimate but friendly environment. And, of course, there is the signature 100 per cent organic, locally roasted Raw coffee. There’ll even be a terrace opening in the near future. 056 505 6272

Tickle your ribs

Comedy lovers rejoice; legendary Canadian funnyman Russell Peters is coming back to town. He’s currently touring the globe with the Almost Famous World Tour, his latest show, and will be at the Dubai World Trade Centre on January 19 and 20. Renowned for using the front row of the audience as cannon fodder – and flying a touch too close to the wind on the odd occasion – his shows involve both set material and spontaneous collaborations, making for an exciting interactive experience. His Notorious world tour in 2012 set attendance records the world over, and the UAE shows were complete sell-outs; we’re sure this will be one hot ticket!
