The Whistler

WHAT TO EXPECT A cosy little spot on the 25th floor of a popular JBR hotel, with fab views of the beachfront and Palm Jumeirah, The Whistler is one of those hidden gems you hope won’t get too popular.

The decor is homely – think Mediterranean farmhouse with pale blues and whitewashed wood – but given an upbeat edge with some funky lighting and chilled-out music.

If you’re into wine, but always order the same thing, have a word with the head sommelier, Andrea Trivino from Venezuela, who can suggest something new.

As for food, until recently, The Whistler had a walk-in cheese room, serving up platters of cheese and antipasti. However, a recent change in character has seen the cheese room converted into a sushi room instead.

Stroll over and choose your own sashimi and maki selection. Or, if you’re not fussy, opt for one of the yummy sushi platters (Dh120, including two shooters). The Whistler is a great little bar for any occasion – for a date, after-work drinks, or a catch-up with the girls.

Apparently they even do a fab New Year’s Eve bash. So head down and try it out – but let’s keep it our little secret, yeah?
