This varied, vibrant affair in the JW Marriott Dubai (note: it’s the older one in Deira, not the spangly new JW Marriott Marquis in Business Bay) is what brunch should – and used to – be all about. Spread across three restaurants, there’s the usual plethora of world cuisines, with a particular emphasis on German fare at Hofbrauhaus and Asian food at Bamboo Lagoon, as well as international fare at The Market Place. But what really sets this brunch apart is the congenial atmosphere: this is an old-school brunch without the hipster mason jars or consciously retro decor, and it is pure, unadulterated fun. It makes you realise how arch and affected the average Dubai brunch has become – don’t come here to ‘see and be seen’, but to let your hair down and eat, drink and be merry in a room full of friendly faces (most of whom you’ll probably end up singing and dancing the Hakka with later alongside the brilliant Polynesian band). While there’s a definite party atmosphere, it’s also completely family -friendly – a large, airy atrium in the centre of the three restaurants features a huge children’s buffet, two bouncy castles, arts and crafts activities, games and cookie decorating – in short, you can leave the kids there to tire themselves out, and be sure that they will be having a great time too.
