  • Spa at Jabal Akhdar hotel, Oman.

Mountain retreat

Where Jabal Akhdar hotel, Oman.

Drive time from Dubai Five-and-a-half hours. You’ll need a 4x4 to get up there, but if you don’t have one you can arrange for the hotel to pick you up at the bottom of the mountain.

Room rates From Dh1,860 per room per night.

Spa prices Packages from Dh765.

Perched 2,000 metres above sea level in the Omani Hajar Mountains, nestled amongst the craggy landscape and wild mountain roses, you’ll stumble across this secret spa spot. Using only natural, organic ingredients from plants and fruits, herbs and spices, the Alila Living brand began in
Bali and blends ancient Asian healing techniques into the most blissful beauty treatments ever. The spa itself is warm and inviting; you’re greeted with a cup of hot ginger honey tea while your therapist helps you pick the oils best suited to your needs.
It’s so quiet you can hear a pin drop, and – just like the hotel itself – it feels private, like having a spa all to yourself. Heaven. Each treatment room has its own beautiful bathroom and you can buy the products in the boutique, too. The body butters are good enough to eat. Especially the Cocoa and Honey one. Yum.

City break

City break

Where Eastern Mangroves by Anantara, Abu Dhabi.

Drive time from Dubai One hour.

Room rates From Dh659 per room per night.

Spa prices Packages from Dh1,080

Perfectly tucked away in the lush greenery of the Eastern Mangroves, the spa offers every treatment you could possibly want, combining the charm of the Middle East with traditional Thai remedies. The therapists are Thai and clearly know their stuff, tailoring treatments to make them just right for you. Afterwards you can relax in the chill-out rooms with a cup of herbal tea. Needless to say you’ll never want to leave.

Coastal bliss

Coastal bliss

Where Waldorf Astoria, Ras Al Khaimah.

Drive time from Dubai One hour.

Room rates From Dh1,239.

Spa prices Couples’ package Dh2,500 with products.

Using QMS Medicosmetics products, the menu boasts a wide range of treatments designed to enhance skin and well-being. We liked the Jade facial priced at Dh700 – an hour of pure bliss following which we bounced out of the hotel glowing. There’s a separate spa for men and women with a VIP suite where you can enjoy treatments together, and the facilities and relaxation areas are some of the best we’ve seen. It’s well worth the scenic trip up there.
