1. Brunch…

…down on the sand at Jumeirah Beach Hotel. Chic, sophisticated but definitely still the right side of casual and relaxed, the Beach Lounge brunch is billed as St Tropez-style with whitewashed sofas, azure waves, and the Burj Al Arab as the backdrop, with uber-chilled saxo sounds floating across the sand. Eats are upmarket and ocean-inspired, with a selection of platters for starters, then a choice of mains and sweets. A soft drinks package will set you back Dh395, regular house and prosecco Dh495 and Lanson bubbles with premium spirits Dh695. Definitely one for a long, lazy afternoon with the girls or a treat with the other half; post-brunch sundowners optional, but we reckon you might have trouble leaving… 04 432 3232

2. Sing along…

…at the newest karaoke bar in town. Missed your calling as the evening’s entertainment? Pop along to UK favourite Lucky Voice, which is now open in Grand Millennium Hotel, Barsha Heights and is proving a popular choice. Expect private karaoke pods, super-handy direct-to-your-pod service and probably one of the most fun atmospheres in town, this one’s a cracker.

3. Order in…

…with Deliveroo. Our new favourite delivery service has expanded to the capital! Abu Dhabi residents will be pleased to know they can now get hold of their favourite dining options quick-smart via the super-handy, super-efficient Deliveroo service. Simply pick your restaurant, place your order and wait for that knock on the door. And to make it even easier, there’s even an app for your smartphone. Result!

4. Stay at…

…Alma Retreat Bedouin Oasis in Ras Al Khaimah. If you’re determined that 2017 is going to be the year you make the most of your life and be your best possible self, check out this new staycation destination. Designed to support those on a personal journey to achieve their goals and adopt a holistic approach to better living, the oasis offers stress-free weekend retreats with a variety of themes focusing on Heart, Mind and Body, from detoxing to life coaching and organising your finances. 5. Get deals…

…using VoucherSkout. We love a bargain here at AQ Towers so we’re delighted with the news there’s another money-saving scheme in town. There’s no book to buy, though, or lengthy subscription; simply download the app, choose the voucher you want, pay for it and use it for a whopping 50 per cent off! You can choose whether to pay with cash or VoucherSkout credits, which you can earn in various ways.

6. Book them in…

…for some active fun. Fans of legendary fitness company Circuit Factory will be over the moon to learn there’s now Little Circuit Factory just for kids. Combining fun workouts with food education, the classes – held at Arcadia Preparatory School in Jumeirah Village Triangle - aim to instill great habits from an early age.

7. Giggle with…

…comedy giants Laughter Factory, who have another great line-up of funny men and women this month. Heading up the bill is Danish dynamo Sofie Hagen, who’s been on the BBC’s The One Show. She’s accompanied by comedy rocker Rob Deering and former Time Out Comic of The Year Jack Dathel. Tickets are priced at Dh140 and shows are on January 12 and 13 at Movenpick JBR, January 19 at Grand Millennium Barsha Heights and January 20 at The Gramercy DIFC.

8. Eat out…

…at new all-day casual dining café A Tub of Butter. Located on Al Thanya street, it offers a tasty menu of Mediterranean-inspired dishes as well as a range of artisanal fine foods from around the world to take home. It’s child-friendly, too, with high chairs and a play area. 04 343 8884

9. Dance to…

…retro 90s and early noughties jams at Feel Good Festi, the music extravaganza set to be held on January 13 at Nasimi Beach, Atlantis The Palm. You’ll need to research your dance moves; on the bill is Los Del Rio – of Macarena fame – as well as Lou Bega, best known for Mambo No 5, and British pop sensations Atomic Kitten. Panjabi MC, otherwise known as the Desi Bhangra King, will be there belting out hits including Mundain do bach Ke and Jogi, and last but not least DJ Sash will have everyone up and bouncing around to Ecuador.
