1. Summer special

Peruvian eaterie Garden has launched a chilled-out new brunch offer to get us through the last of the hot months. Every Friday from 12.30pm-4pm there’s a mouth-wateringly tempting Latin American feast such as ceviche, beef empanadas, chicken saltados and the quirky quinoa risotto, as well as sweet treats including the utterly moreish lemon tart, set to the background of house band N2L playing popular covers. A selection of beverages rounds it off, all for just Dh185. And if you want to stay for sundowners, you’ll get discounted drinks and shisha from 4-6pm with DJ Keza spinning the tunes. Level 5, JW Marriott Marquis, Shaikh Zayed Road. 056 600 8750

2. How marvellous!

Hold on to your hats, there’s a new theme park in town. IMG Worlds of Adventure at Dubailand opens its doors on August 15 and promises a world of fun with all your favourite Marvel heroes. Get online and get your tickets pronto!

4. Movies

The Ghostbusters remake with female ghostbusters including Kristen Wiig will get us feeling the girl power! We’ll be slightly anxious of the ocean after watching Blake Lively being terrorised by a shark in The Shallows. And with the kids, we’ll get lost in Tim Burton’s imagination at Alice Through the Looking Glass.

5. Read all about it

Loveability: Knowing How to Love and Be Loved by Robert Holden Ph.D

Loveability is a meditation on love. All the happiness, health and abundance you experience in life comes from your ability to love and be loved; an ability not taught, but innate within us. The book explains that self-love is how you’re meant to feel about yourself, and how it’s the key to loving others. A great book for anyone wanting to reconnect with themselves.

6. Across the UAE

There’s a new children’s menu at gastropub The Sportman’s Arms. Choose from favourites including organic chicken fingers, Margherita pizza and penne pasta, and enjoy a main course, ice lolly and drink for the bargain price of just Dh60. 02 403 4235

Japan calling

Check out Ramusake, the hot new Japanese restaurant at Doubletree by Hilton in JBR; great food and a great atmosphere. We loved the Ramusake Salad with crispy tofu and from the grill, the salmon cooked in tangy teriyaki sauce is a must-try. The refreshing homemade sorbet and creamy ice-cream was a favourite too. 04 559 5300

Simply Spanish

El Sur – Contemporary Spanish Restaurant, The Westin, Dubai

At heart of the Westin Hotel, lies a truly authentic Spanish delight. During the Iberico nights (every Saturday to Wednesday from 6pm to 8pm) the contemporary-style restaurant accommodates couples in search of a romantic dinner as well as people meeting up after work for sundowners at the bar.

The bar serves the famous Spanish tapas – a selection of Spanish cold meats and cheese accompanied by a bottle of red grape for Dh250.

We shared the Seleccin de Charcutera, a selection of the finest meats, slightly toasted breads and Queso Manchego – a well-aged cheese made in the La Mancha region of Spain from the milk of sheep of the Manchega breed.
