  • Do something different this Valentine's day.

Under the waves

What: Diving lessons

Where: The Dive Centre, DIMC Yacht Club, Dubai Marina; Sandy Beach Hotel and Resort, Fujairah

How much: Dive trips start at Dh250 for two dives, or Dh350 with full kit. Padi Open Water courses start at Dh1,800 (including five sessions in the pool and four dives in the sea over a few days), with many other courses on offer too.

The low-down: Take the plunge together with diving lessons in the hands of owner and Padi course director Jason Sockett, who has 16 years’ experience and a passion for all things aquatic. Jason and his super-friendly team will get you skilled up and ready for the water, before whisking you out on a boat over the waves – either in Dubai or Fujairah – for some diving fun. Swim around real-life shipwrecks, get up close and personal with pretty fish and sealife and have a healthy dose of good wholesome adventure and fun. With so many dive sites in the region and relatively tepid water, this is an experience you should not miss out on.

Visit, find it on Facebook (The Dive Centre Dubai) or call 055 998 5806.

In the saddle

What: Horse-riding lessons

Where: Al Sahra Desert Equestrian Centre

How much: Private lessons from Dh250

The low-down: Enjoy the beautiful desert scenery as you learn to ride. Choose from semi-private or private lessons, or a romantic sunrise or sunset desert ride.

Call 04 427 4055.

Head for heights

What: Rock climbing

Where: Challenging Adventure,
Ras Al Khaimah

How much: Dh300 for a full-day climb

The low-down: Show your trust in each other with a rock-climbing session. Climbs are supervised by qualified staff and follow British health and safety standards – equipment provided.

Call 04 453 8386.

The food of love

What: Frying Pan Adventures food tours

Where: Various locations around Dubai

How much: From Dh300

The low-down: Have a dinner date with a difference on a culinary tour of the oldest parts of the city. The tour will take you through the back streets to sample a range of cuisines, including Emirati, Indian and African.

Trip the light fantastic

What: Dance lessons

Where: James and Alex Dance Studios

How much: Prices vary

The low-down: Bond over ballroom with lessons in anything from salsa and tango to hip-hop and zumba. The talented, experienced instructors will put you both at ease and get your toes tapping and your hearts racing.
