One of my favourite music venues in the UAE is Zero Gravity. I was so happy when it launched the all-day music festival DXBeach in April this year; combining one of my favourite bars with live music, and all happening on the beach – how can you go wrong?! The first one kicked off with a bang with Jess Glynne and Mark Ronson headlining – two of the biggest acts of 2015. I’m so excited it’s announced two dates for the new season this year. The first one’s set for October 23 and will star Clean Bandit (the electro act behind hit songs like Rather Be) and actor-DJ Idris Elba – it’s gonna be awesome!

I love Jazz at Pizza Express in JLT. They have a different live music act every night of the week. My favourite is Thursday nights for the Jazz Vibes evening. Abri and Funk Radius hit the stage at 9.30pm, the atmosphere is electric, and I love the intimate setting. Plus they serve great pizza!

Stereo Arcade at DoubleTree by Hilton Dubai Jumeirah Beach is one of the hottest new venues in Dubai. If retro music is your bag then you’ll be sure to like this; it’s got live music and arcade machines, as well as the surprisingly amazing apple crumble-flavoured pizza – mmm, yes please! Awesome UAE-based band The Boxtones play the best Eighties and Nineties music there every Wednesday from 10pm for three hours.

The way I buy my music has evolved so much over the years. From taping radio music on to cassettes, to buying CDs from Our Price or Sam Goody, to streaming it from websites, to the best way ever now with the new Apple Music. But has it ruined it for all the old-school vinyl lovers?
Well, if you think it has, you can always check out Dubai’s oldest and longest-running vinyl store, Ohm Records, in Bur Dubai – and while you’re there ask to have a go on the decks… if you dare!

One of the best things about living in the UAE is the diversity of live music you can experience. I’ve seen bands over here that I wouldn’t necessarily have bothered with elsewhere, but when they’re on your doorstep it’s hard to say no. Like the other night we took a trip to the du Forum to see, wait for it, the singer Michael Ball – a totally random night, but what a performer!
