It’s time to join in the worldwide observation of Earth Hour this Saturday 19 March at 8:30pm to 9:30pm (local time) and help raise awareness of climate change by switching off all unnecessary electrical appliances.

It’s the perfect excuse for some quality time with family and friends by candlelight. If you want to get out and about to help raise awareness, however, why not pop along to Mushrif Park in Dubai from 7pm to 10pm to celebrate the night’s sky with Dubai Astronomy Group. Free to attend, you can join in marvelling at the stars as the park shuts down its lights. All you need to do is register send an email to with your name and contact details, as well as for anyone going with you.

Alternatively, zen out with Full Moon Yoga on the beach at Fairmont The Palm. The one-hour session, which costs AED75 per person, starts at 8pm and is followed by 30 minutes of meditation. Make sure you book in advance by calling +971 4 4573330 or emailing

Foodies can tuck into a candlelit dinner at Feast Restaurant at the Sheraton Grand Hotel, Dubai, where a sustainable corner is being set up to serve eco-friendly, tasty treats in addition to the nightly buffet offering. The dinner costs Dh190 per person and will be served from 8:30pm to 9:30pm. To book call 04 5034300.

Earth Hour and World Wildlife Fund (WWF) is also calling on us to join the social media movement by ‘donating’ your Facebook posts and uploading a custom-made Earth Hour profile picture – the details of which can be found at #ChangeClimateChange
