On track

The brand-spanking-new District One Cycling and Running Tracks are now open in Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum City. Located close to Meydan, the tracks offer specially made surfaces ideal for both sports, in a safe, runners- and cyclists-only environment. Access is from Meydan Road and there’s ample on-site parking.

Paddle your way to fitness

If you like your exercise a little left of the middle, you might like to check out a new offering from local tour company Aloha Arabia. The outdoors enthusiasts will take you and a stack of stand-up paddleboards to Dibba, where they’ll teach you the basics before taking you on a paddle and snorkel around Dibba Rock. Tours include return transport from Dubai, paddleboard and snorkel hire (unless you want to take your own), snacks and drinks throughout the day and a buffet lunch. Apparently paddleboarding can burn up to 500 calories an hour, and you can add a tan to the bargain; now that’s our kind of exercise!

Plants for dinner

Essentially is launching a raw plant-based food delivery programme this month, with three organic raw meals a day, cold-pressed juices and a snack delivered right to your door. All meals have been created with love and careful thought by raw food chef and holistic nutritionist Kristin Fraser, who believes it’s time to stop counting calories and to start counting nutrients.

It’s not cheating...

It’s giving yourself the best possible chance! Slendertone ab belts for toned abs are now available at Sun & Sand Sports, Go Sports and for Dh1,050. Well, we’re all busy girls...

On a mission... the body I want

What’s happening?

I’ve had enough! No more broken promises, no more unfulfilled goals; 2016 is the year I finally get the body I want. I’m fitter than I’ve ever been, but I’m still fatter than I’m happy with and I’m not prepared to put up with it any more. Follow me as I take on anything and everything to get me where I want to be, from new exercise classes and lifestyle changes to cleanses, detoxes, healthy eating plans and more. Who knows, you might find yourself inspired!

A little bit of background

In the past fifteen years I’ve had two children, three spine surgeries, one abdominal surgery and post-natal depression. I’ve been 57kg, 98kg (OK, three weeks before my due date with number one) and everywhere in between. I’ve been fit, unfit, lazy and motivated. I’ll have 37 candles on my next birthday cake and I’m starting to worry; have I left it too late? Am I on the downward slope? No, I’m not having that! I’m fit, I’m healthy, I’m capable of having the body I want…

And the vitals...

My current weight is 74kg; the top of my arms are 30cm; waist, 84cm; hips, 102cm; bum, 114cm; and thighs, 63cm.
