On a mission... the body I want
What’s happening? I’m finally getting my butt into gear and heading back to the size I want to be. It’s only taken me 15 years...
What’s on my plate? After three weeks of excess over the festive season, and a resulting 3kg weight gain, I decided my body could do with a bit of a kick-start. Enter Essentially with its five-day juice and raw food plan (Dh1,495): each morning, a sack full of fresh, tasty goodness appeared on my doorstep. I thought it was going to be tough – I love my food! – but I really enjoyed both the juices and the menu choices and felt much better for doing it. I was refreshed, less bloated, more mentally alert, less sleepy and, surprisingly, not hungry. I suffer from bad skin these days, but it got much clearer, and my face was far less puffy. Overall, I felt great at the end of the five days.
What’s on my mind? For a longer-term approach to my eating – I’m terrible when it comes to portion sizes, eating too fast and treating my body as a waste disposal unit for my children’s leftovers – I had my first two sessions with Mind Solutions’ Anna Yates, who specialises in hypnosis and psychotherapy for weight management. It’s early days, but I’m confident I’m seeing results; I’ve already changed my ways and it’s been no effort.
What about exercise? Fitness First is running a new campaign so I decided to pop down and see if it could help me. The I Am Training For campaign recognises we have different reasons for wanting to train, but essentially we’re all after the same thing: a fitter, healthier, happier us! I thought I was reasonably fit – I cycled the Dubai92 road race in three hours for charity in December – but a couple of sessions with Houcine at the Beach Park Plaza club showed me I am, in fact, more Sid the Sloth than super-fit. I’m on track, though, with a training plan and plenty of helpful advice to get me where I want to be.
And the vitals… Last month my weight was 74kg; the tops of my arms, 30cm; waist, 84cm; hips, 102cm; bum, 114cm and thighs, 63cm. OK, so I put on 3kg over Christmas, but I’m happy to report this month I’m back down to 74kg. More impressive are the measurements: arms, 29cm; waist, 76cm; hips, 100cm; bum 110cm; and thighs, 61cm.
