Be BMI-wary

Relying on your BMI as a measure your health? New research has shown it’s an unreliable way to determine healthy weight. Jump on body composition scales instead to get a more accurate picture.

On a mission... the body I want

What’s happening? I’m finally getting my butt into gear and heading back to the size I want to be. It’s only taken me 15 years...

What’s on my plate? Let’s face it, it’s always easier to lose weight when someone feeds you. This month I’ve been sampling the Lifestyle paleo menu from Love Food and it’s been great having fresh, healthy meals and drinks turning up at the office every morning in eco-friendly glassware. Options are tasty and varied, and modified versions of treats certainly aren’t off limits; I’ve had waffles for breakfast and cookies for snacks! The kitchen team even took into consideration my loathing for cucumber and stinky fish. Plans start from Dh729 per week.

What’s on my mind? I’ve been continuing three or four times a week with my home hypnosis sessions, after my course with Anna at MindSolutions. I’m pretty sure my eating habits are changed for good, but there’s no way I’m taking any chances!

What about exercise? After last month’s intense workout with Houcine, my personal trainer at Fitness First, I decided to try out a few of the gym’s classes to see if they were any kinder – I’m pleased to report they weren’t. This lot really are serious about getting you in shape, which is exactly what I’ve been needing. I’ve tried Body Pump and Tuff so far, and I’m now planning to try Pilates for a rest – that should tell you what the classes are like! Thankfully, they’re a whole lot of fun as well so
I think I might even have enjoyed them...

And the vitals… Last month my weight was 72kg; the tops of my arms, 29cm; waist, 74cm; hips, 96cm; bum, 107cm and thighs, 60cm. This month I’m 70kg, but more impressive are the measurements: arms, 28.5cm; waist, 75cm; hips, 96cm; bum 108cm; and thighs, 59cm.
