Vivaldi by Michelin-starred Alfredo Russo at the Sheraton Dubai Creek Hotel and Towers has introduced a new seasonal lunch and dinner menu – available until September 10 – which will make choosing healthy options as easy as 1-2-3. All the ingredients are superfoods, so the meals are packed full of micro- and macronutrients – and super-tasty too. Choices include seed-encrusted salmon, crispy celeriac steak with green tomato sauce, and a salad containing just about every vitamin going. 04 207 1717

On a mission... the body I want

What’s happening? An unflattering photo of me prompted a decision: lose the last of the baby flab, get fit and get back to how I used to be.

What’s on my plate? I decided to take a hard-line approach this month and signed up for daily deliveries from Detox Delight – uber-clean cold-pressed juices, three meals a day and yummy, healthy snacks to boot. Who knew vegan soups and a raw food diet could be so tasty? I didn’t meet a single meal I didn’t like! I developed a new-found love for green juice and, best of all, I felt absolutely amazing. I wasn’t hungry once, I didn’t have any cravings for junk, and I had bags of energy. Definitely one I’d do again.

What about exercise? I finished up my Fitness First membership with a bang!
Not for the faint-hearted, the freestyle group training area is right in the middle of the gym so everyone can see just how uncoordinated and unfit you are; luckily, nobody cares and the instructor is nothing but encouraging. I’ve been lugging kettlebells, wrestling with giant ropes and slinging padded logs around and, boy, is it making a difference to my shape. I won’t lie, it’s been the toughest exercise yet, but it’s been strangely enjoyable and definitely effective. I’ve always wanted arms like Michelle Obama’s...

And the vitals…

This is it, my last weigh-in before I go bikini-shopping and head off for the summer...

Starting stats            Now              Loss

Weight: 74kg              69kg              5kg

Body fat: 38.6%         28%               10.6%

Arms: 30cm                26.5cm          3.5cm

Waist: 84cm               72cm              12cm

Hips: 102cm              94.5cm           7.5cm

Bum: 114cm              102cm            12cm

Thighs: 63cm             56cm              7cm

So has it all been worth it? Yes, definitely. I haven’t lost as many kilos as I’d have liked, but I have lost a whopping 10 per cent body fat and gained muscle, which I’m pretty sure is far more important than mere numbers on a scale.
I’m more toned, I’m smaller and – most importantly – I feel that I look better. Now, if I can just avoid the French bread and cheese over my holiday and stay like this...
