“Being born in Abu Dhabi at the Corniche Hospital, my wedding venue search was narrowed to this area of the city. The Intercontinental Hotel best suited my needs as I wanted a fairy-tale kind of ballroom. The theme was the colours of a peacock, inspired by a dream I had when my husband and I were first in our relationship, in which I saw vibrant colours – purple, turquoise and blue – bursting with beauty and elegance.
Our budget was Dh70,000 and we stuck to it. My family is very artistic and helped me by making the bridesmaids’ bouquets, a ring pillow, the flower girls’ baskets, wedding car decorations and more. We had a Unity Sand Ceremony and a large poster of my husband and me at the exit of the hall. We also held lots of games and activities for our guests.”
They wore: “I wore a white gown throughout the whole ceremony and reception. It was tailor-made by one of Abu Dhabi’s favourite designers, Nouf, and it cost around Dh4,000. Perseus wore a tux with bow tie for the ceremony and a tie at the reception. He shopped at stores in Dubai and Abu Dhabi and spent about Dh3,000.”
The bridesmaids: “They wore turquoise netted dresses with a little purple flower on their waist. The outfits were made by a friend who is a fashion designer and cost around Dh2,500.”
The venue: “This cost Dh43,000, including the hall, food, beverages, dance floor, a four-tier cake, sound and lights, plus a hotel room for the night.”
