Write it down

Setting out worries or even just jotting down important dates can clear your head and allow room for the more important things, according to a Chicago University study. Students using the technique before an exam showed a 20 per cent improvement in their marks.

Tech a break

While technology can make life easier, it can also take up unnecessary space in our minds. Social media and smart phones are flooding our brains with stuff that isn’t entirely useful – Larry Rosen of California University, advises setting aside defined tech breaks, freeing up your mind to concentrate on the task at hand.

Get creative

Studies show that distracting yourself with something enjoyable releases dopamine, which can help ease a frazzled mind. So try your hand at painting, follow a Pinterest blog to make your own home decorations, do a puzzle or dance your heart out – anything that lets you focus on something fun.
