BEST FOR…
DIVORCE-MOON

MEXICO

What… You don’t need to go all Eat, Pray, Love to mend a broken heart, but a couple of weeks away with your besties certainly won’t do you any harm. In fact, the divorce-moon has become so popular that a lot of hotels now offer bespoke packages for heartsick guests.

Where to stay… The Casa Velas in Puerto Vallarta (www.hotelcasavelas.com), offers a Divorce Package where newly single guests can rejoice in their freedom with a complimentary stay in the Presidential Suite. With a minimum occupancy of six people for three nights, the divorcee stays free. The package includes a farewell party for the wedding ring, a VIP night on the town and a jewellery consultation to redesign the engagement ring. Prices start from around Dh2,200 per person, per night.

Where to dine… The package includes a private welcome dinner, but if you prefer to venture out, try the Ocean Grill Beach Restaurant (www.oceangrillvallarta.com) which is located nearby at Vero Beach.

Getting there… Emirates (www.emirates.com) flies daily to Dallas from around Dh5,500 return. From Dallas Fort Worth International Airport take a return flight with Aeromexico (www.aeromexico.com) direct to Puerto Vallarta for around Dh1,400.

BEST FOR…
BABY-MOON

MALAYSIA

What… While your head may be spinning (they don’t call it ‘baby brain’ for nothing), it’s important to set aside a little time to emotionally and physically prepare before you pop. The new trend is for expectant mums to head off on a holiday a few months before the birth and book in for a prenatal package.

Where to stay…The Chateau Spa & Organic Wellness Resort (www.thechateau.com.my) in Malaysia is the world’s first organic, wellness destination spa, and it offers bespoke experiences for mums-to-be. The Pre Natal Therapy package includes seven nights deluxe accommodation, wellness sessions and a variety of prenatal-themed spa treatments. Prices start at around Dh16,530.

Where to dine… You couldn’t be in better hands because The Chateau prides itself on serving fresh produce, nurtured by hand in proud organic tradition. For something casual, try La Vie, the resort’s all-day-dining restaurant. If you fancy something sophisticated, book a table at L’Assiette, a high-end French eatery, which serves deliciously healthy meals.

Getting there… Emirates (www.emirates.com) flies daily to Kuala Lumpa International Airport from around Dh3,075. The Chateau is approximately 90-minutes drive away.

BEST FOR…
PRE-MOON

MADRID

What… Pre-moon is a buzzword in the wedding world and refers to the getaway couples take just before they say ‘I do’.

Where to go… If you’ve spent the best part of a year fussing about flowers and favours, the chances are you need some rest, romance and revelry before the big day. Voted number one on Forbes’ 10 Unexpectedly Romantic Cities is Madrid. Whether you’re strolling hand in hand through the city’s luscious botanical gardens or taking in the view via the hugely popular Teleférico Madrid cable car, this is the ideal place to reignite the passion that might have dwindled during the planning period.

Where to stay… Madrid has loads of amazing hotels, but one of our favourites is Hotel Ritz Madrid (www.ritzmadrid.com), which is nestled in the Golden Triangle at the heart of the city. A one-night stay in this trendy spot starts from around Dh1,070.

Where to dine… If your pre-wedding diet allows, book in for a plate cocido madrilene (that’s a chickpea-based stew, to you and me) at Casa Lucio (www.casalucio.es).

Getting there… Emirates (www.emirates.com) flies to Madrid daily from around Dh4,000 return.

BEST FOR…
MINI-MOON

SRI LANKA

What… Every couple needs some downtime after the best (albeit busiest) day of their lives, but if you’re short on time, a lengthy honeymoon may be off the cards. A popular alternative is to take a mini-moon of four to five days straight after the wedding and save the longer break for down the line.

Where to go… Take a trip to the beach village of Unawatuna in Sri Lanka. It’s a two-hour drive from Colombo International Airport, and with a chilled vibe and picturesque coastline, it’s perfect for a mini-moon.

Where to stay… Sergeant House (www.sergeanthouse.com) sits just off the beach and offers a welcome respite for weary travellers. Furnished in colonial style, this 200-year-old property has been lovingly restored into a teeny boutique hotel with just four individually designed rooms. Prices at Sergeant House start at around Dh440 per night.

Where to dine… There are plenty of beach restaurants in Unawatuna, but if you’re looking for an excuse to don your Jimmy Choos, take a tuk-tuk to the nearby town of Galle. Here you’ll find hip haunts such as The Sun House Restaurant (www.thesunhouse.com).

Getting there… Flydubai (flydubai.com) flies
to Colombo daily from around Dh1,100 return. From there, take a taxi to Unawatuna, which costs around Dh200.
